Over fourty thousand schools are on strike in Nepal By Janak Pathak Kathmandu/December 8th- Since the so-called democratic criminal government of Nepal danced under the signal of World bank, IMF, USA and EU and took off most of the subsidies from the education, health sectors, the public life came on difficulties. Specially the different governments since 1990 got popularity by using the slogan that they are providing free education up to 10th class. But in practice they never implement instead the quality of education degraded. The public schools charged grossly higher amount of fees at the time of admission in different headings which forced the poor students to leave the school. According to the statistic only the 70% of children can admit to the primary school but only 53% are able to continue the primary education. The drop rate in middle and secondary school is very high because of the costly educational policy and the policy of privatisation of education. Even who can afford the admission to school in spite of their custodial situation they are forced to stop or suffered from the barrier system of education. For instances the compulsory Sanskrit, barrier examination system etc. Since long time, the responsible students' organisations demanded for scientific, reachable of normal people and facilitative education system but the government always adopted the education policy to produce the agents for foreign sell and education of private appreciation of king, royal family, feudal and compradors. Even this is dream for the majority of the people. Almost 50% of the population is under 18 years, among them almost 70% could not continue secondary education. So, how the government policy is oriented to keep children out of their achieve. To cut the educational expense, subsidies in agriculture-a backbone of country's livelihood, health facilities and to increase the fair in electricity, water, telephone, health services, the World Bank and IMF always forwarded their conditions. Which now the people of Nepal clearly saw the interest of the imperialists/expansionist powers and came to fight them. The most organised and bigger student organisation of Nepal, All Nepal National Independent Student Union (Revolutionary) ANNISU(R) was launching the struggle for their rights since long-time alone and together with other student organisations. But the government always not only neglected the demands but sharpen its policy to create difficulties. ANNISU(R) submitted 15 demands and give ultimatum to fulfil in fifteen days but the government tried to arrest the students workers and detained them, some of those whereabouts is still unknown and mobilise police force to stop the activities of the organisation. In spite of the mobilisation of police nation-wide the ANNISU(R) carried out its actions. Specially those managements and the headmasters who have received illegal fees were requested to refund. Who denied and asked the police forces for their security and against the students were punished publicly. The actions to bring them among the guardians and student masses to promise for refund, several time sit and stand up in front of masses with promise not to continue the anti- people activities, like corruption, police spying, charging of illegal fees and sexual harassment of the school girls etc. These actions are getting popularity within the students and masses. The union has called for a week-long nation-wide closure of all public and private schools starting December 8 putting forward its 15-point demand, which includes protest against privatisation of education, high price of education and "incursion of foreign agencies" in the education system of Nepal. According to the receive message Kathmandu and around the country all the schools are closed. It is the first time only a student organisation called strike completely successful. The other organisations also supported the called strike. According to the source about 30,000 public schools and around 10,000 private schools are closed completely today and would closed for whole week. There are about 6 million students are studying in those schools. It is a first time the private schools were influenced by the strike called only in educational institutions. The well popular demands including the cancellation of compulsory Sanskrit education, stop the singing of so-called National anthem and turning the private, boarding schools into government schools and against the police intervention in schools and universities. If the government would not fulfil the just demands of students the Universities, campuses also would join in the movement. The teachers are already series of protests for their demands including the issues raised by ANNISU(R). The parents of the students also supporting strongly the struggle, later there is possibilities to come out on the street also. The free education is the announced by the Nepali congress government and strongly forwarded by the following governments but now the pressure form the foreign aid groups make difficulties to follow their promises. According to observers the donors threatened the government not to provide easy and cheap and scientific education, otherwise they will stop to sponsor the government. Because of this pressure the education minister spoke in spite of the free education it was not applied practically from the school administration, so they can not provide free education for the poor country's poor people. It shows the whole reactionaries of the World are against the poor and genuine people of Nepal which belongs to more than 80% of the population. The success of the strike called by ANNISU(R) shows the strong hold of the organisation. ANNISU(R) morally supports the people's war and believe the problems of the students will not be solved until the new democratic revolution not success. 31.12. 2002 State of emergency a degradation of limit democratic rights 22.05. 2002 Puppet Gyanendra dissolved the Parliament 14.05. 2002 Deuba protested in Brussels 03.05. 2002 Revolutionary 1st May in Berlin 16.04. 2002 The important questions raised from the successful Dang raid 29.03. 2002 Nepal Banda to Protest the reactionary reppression 05.02. 2002 Let's Iight the Imperialists Terror 25.11. 2001 people's council formed 25.11. 2001 Series of attacks in different district headquarters 23.07. 2001 Maoists attacked police stations in the West and East 12.07. 2001 Nepal Banda marked grand success 07.07. 2001 Red army of Nepal Launched Advanced raids 30.06. 2001 Government’s another attack in press 02.06. 2001 The Royal family massacred in Nepal 04.05. 2001 Revolutionary May 1st in Berlin 15.04. 2001 Success of Dailekh Raid: Outcry of World Re-action 04.04. 2001 April 6 Nepal banda:38 policemen killed 01.04. 2001 Revolutionary Women broke Gorkha prison 21.03. 2001 Headline News The Kathmandu Post (Nepal) 01.03. 2001 People’s War in Nepal : Celebrated the 5th Anniversary and discussed abroad 20.02. 2001 Actions in Nepal to mark the 5th anniversary of people's war 11.02. 2001 5th anniversary of the people’s war celebrated In Germany 24.01. 2001 Series of Raids and Ambush: killed police officers 22.01. 2001 INSOF condemned the attacked over HR activist Chintan 18.01. 2001 No reason to open fire, says House committee 15.01. 2001 10 People killled in Kalikot 11.01. 2001 ADB Raided: different other actions 05.01. 2001 Warning Actions Arround East and Middle Region 03.01. 2001 A commando Death squade ambushed at Mao Day 01.01. 2001 Nepal shutdown paralyses the country: Mulkani's Effigy burnt 28.12. 2000 Nepal upsurge against the India fan and violent government 27.12. 2000 Protest Against Indian Actor Hrithik Shocked the Government: Lead to kill four and 80 injured 26.12. 2000 The announcement of the united people's government 21.12. 2000 Pro-Maoists meet in capital 08.12. 2000 Over fourty thousand schools are on strike in Nepal 02.12. 2000 11 policemen killed in Kalikot 20.11. 2000 Military actions inevitably forwarded in sequence of resistance 13.11. 2000 Make success the Nepal Shut-down on 16th and 17th of November 03.11. 2000 The Episod of the dialogue and the drama with rough acting 03.10. 2000 The developing seen of struggle in Nepal 01.10. 2000 Home Minister resigned 01.10. 2000 Eight policemen killed in Lamjung raid 30.09. 2000 Maoists Captured Dolpa district HQ 16.09. 2000 Behind the colourful facade... 14.09. 2000 Ashwin 5 Nepal Banda 02.09. 2000 The publicise of no recruitment of child soldier 01.09. 2000 The Resistance Actions: Attack Residence of Home Minister 17.07. 2000 4 cops killed in Sindhupalchok in people’s Guerrilla attack 14.07. 2000 JOINT PRESS STATEMENT OF CPN (M) and PEOPLE’S WAR 30.06. 2000 Exile and Migrant Nepalese Protested State Crime 17.06. 2000 170600_Nation_wide_armed_actions 14.06. 2000 140600_12policemen 13.06. 2000 The press statement of the CPN (Maoist) 16.05. 2000 An Inspector killed in Rolpa 10.05. 2000 May day around the World 09.05. 2000 People's War: the Center of the Interrnational Discussion 08.05. 2000 Nepalese People's War Support Committee Formed in Belgium 04.05. 2000 Public Action Against The Bad Elements 03.05. 2000 The announcement of revenge from the battlefield 16.04. 2000 Seven Policemen Die in an Ambush 08.04. 2000 Armed Shut-down: Country Paralysed 05.04. 2000 Countrywide special resistance actions 22.03. 2000 Chaitra 24 (April-6) Armed Nepal shutdown 18.03. 2000 Two Banks and a Police camp raided 12.03. 2000 Two Police officers Have Been Made Prisioners of War 06.03. 2000 Maoists enforce prohibition 06.03. 2000 Maoists Capture a Police Post and a Bank 26.02. 2000 Hundreds of Houses Have Been Burnt and Dozens Are Killed 21.02. 2000 15 Cops Killed In A Guerrilla Attack Rolpa 13.02. 2000 News From The Battlefield 27.01. 2000 News of the supression and the resistance in Rolpa 25.01. 2000 The Press Release Of The Central Committee Plenum Of CPN (Maoist) 23.01. 2000 Various People's Actions 08.01. 2000 The peoples' guerrillas raided the Banks 05.01. 2000 Nine Policemen killed in a Guerrilla Attacked 16.12. 1999 Police Intervened In Students Conferences 27.10. 1999 Are the Maoists winning the “WAR” 26.10. 1999 æj?0f If]qÆ df dfcf]jfbLåf/f hgpkof]uL sfo{ ;+rfng 07.10. 1999 Bandh paralyses life throughout the country 22.09. 1999 Nine policemen died in guerilla action 22.09. 1999 Serial blasts reported 14.06. 1999 Maoist Military Commissar And Commander's challenge to The Government 01.04. 1999 People's War in Nepal: Reports from the Battlefield |
