Communications with Donny cut
On Thursday 26th June, Donny was forcibly taken into the notorious prison
hospital in Hohen-Asperg. While in the deportation prison in Rottenburg
Donny was able to use the phone cards provided by his supporters to call
them at least twice every day. This communication was invaluable because
he was able to get feedback on how the campaign was going and enabled him
to control the direction of his campaign. From the very beginning of his
hunger strike the officials at the deportation prison in Rottenburg began
mistreating Donny, abusing him because his hunger strike was attracting
attention to their deportation prison. The behaviour of the prison doctor
was so outrageous that Donny’s lawyer was compelled to take legal action
against him.
The psychological-terror against Donny increased on 26th June when suddenly
he was moved the prison hospital in Hohen-Asperg the day that he was hoping
to be released. Donny was hopeful because his lawyer had faxed a new asylum
application to the Bundesamt. Due to the specific circumstances of Donny’s
case it would have been the normal practice to release him as the application
was strong enough that it could not be rejected immediately. But instead
of being released he was forcibly transferred to the prison hospital. Since
then he has not telephoned anyone – this is despite the fact that he has
phone cards and that it is allowed to phone from this prison hospital.
We are very worried that psychological or physical pressure is put on
him to stop the hunger strike or to agree to ‘voluntarily’ leave the country.
We ask everyone to come together to fight to get the immediate release
