Urgent call for help towards
the clarification of the fate of my brother

My brother Ayhan Khalil Sheho, who
was born in 1982 in Derswan, Afrin in Syria, disappeared on 18.08.1999,
without us knowing anything about his whereabouts.
Through different reports, we learnt recently
that he was arrested and imprisoned in the punishment camp, branch Palastina,
because a denunciator had reported that my brother was critical about the
regime. All attempts of my family to find out the whereabouts of my brother
in order to be able to visit him, remained unsuccessful, because all official
doors remained locked.
Our concern has increased even more, after
we read the press statement of the official speaker of the committee
for human rights in Syria, Mr. attorney Akthem Na'aiseh, which was
published on 03 July 2001 in the Internet under www.ljan.de
and in which it was stated that my brother had died in prison. The
same report appeared in the 04.Juli 2001 edition of the newspaper "El Nahar".
Since the Syrian authorities are discreet
in such affairs and show no reaction, thus giving no other possibility
for my family, to learn something about the whereabouts of my brother,
I am publishing this statement and request

the supporters of liberty, democracy and peace
to urge the Syrian authorities to throw light
on the whereabouts of my brother. And thereafter to help achieve a release
from custody or to ensure a fair legal trial, in which constitutional and
fundamental rights and rule of law is guaranteed, and not before a high
court of state, such as the state security court in Syria, in which no
legal right of defence is ensured and where court orders are partially
pre-empted, to the disadvantage of the rights of alleged dissidents.
As the brother of the missing Ayhan Khalil
Sheho, I turn to you for your assistance, in throwing light on his destiny
