Revolutionary May 1st in Berlin

Angry protesters set fire in a car after police clash.

2nd of May, 2001/ Berlin, the May 1st demonstration in Berlin is getting historical importance because of the police brutality and restriction since 1987. In 1987 there was confrontation when police tried to restrict the demonstrators. Because of the police mistreatment the workers concentrated in demo to fight against the police state.

There was a split in that demo since the 1996 for the cause of revolutionary politics and some of growing opportunist characters which undermined the rights of the women and workers. Due to the imperialist cultural influence the polarisation was occurred despite the weak condition of revolutionary forces.

These conditions encouraged the rights forces to restrict the some of the leftist demonstration. Since some years some of independent intellectuals groups were mobilised their members to observe the demonstrations.

The year 2001 marked the historical record in the May day protest in Berlin. The right elements in the power restricted the demonstrations but the demonstrations for the Nazis allowed. This fact shows that the international comments of being Naziisation of German state is true and based on the facts. Like the laws which was utilised by Hitler and co to punish the German people if they found helping or hiding Jews is now applicable against the foreigners.

The authorities restricted the May 1st demonstration which was a tradition in last years. There was no cause to restrict but it shows the turning of German state into undemocratic extremism. The German state and authorities were seen unhappy for celebrating the victory of workers as symbolised May day. Even they want to restrict to celebrate the symbol of victory of workers, how people can expect the better response from such a authority. Despite the restrictions the organisers of the Revolutionary may day celebration made a demonstration in front of Verwaltungsgericht (administrative court), then Verfassungsgericht (constitutional court) from where they got time from 13.00 to 16.00 o’clock. The decision of the court also shows the authorities are against the workers and the masses. The police used lethal force to make emptied the streets after 16.00. but the masses wanted to move and wanted to chanted their slogans and to show their banners and flags. Police tried to escalate the clash. They maltreated the walkers on the streets. Since morning police was on the mentality to repress the demonstration. The government broadcasted that they have deployed more than 9000 commando police. The police since the last evening surrounded the Orannionplatz (the place from where the demonstration has to start) they checked the bags and pockets of the people whoever passed through the park and square. This was the preparation for the intervention which took place at the evening and night. Police beat, arrested and maltreated the masses which led to resistance which ended in clash and tense. The police once again loosed the credibility and sympathy from the liberal masses.

There were some independent organisations observed since some past year's demo about the violence reported on May day. Last year police accused the demonstrators for attacking police and escalating the violence. But the fact was other way around. The police was escalating the violence. There were no report of attacking any body by the demonstrators. Also the demonstrations were unarmed, that's why police always attacked the demo and forced them to resist. If the people were violent then they could do next days but police continues the arrests and other treatments the following days. A professor from a Berlin free University exposed the escalating of violence by police in a press conference. He told that he was also in the demonstration but there was no violence from the side of masses but it was the police who made violent intervention in response of the charge by police that the demonstrators were violent. He was a old and intellectual. People who heard him could understand easily. This year the police treated badly to that professor, they baton him and put in custody for five hours while he was observing the demonstration as part of independent organisation. One can easily understand how the German police is aggressive against those who exposed the facts and reality. The German state shows the character of police state.

The another character of demo was there were lots of non German skin people, that's why the German police wanted to repress them. The German democracy is only for German colour people not for auslanders.
